Lincoln School (57)
2nd and C streets, SERepairs in 1871, demolished
The Lincoln School was erected for the same purpose as the Sumner School, to provide education for African-American children.
Contrary to former beliefs, Cluss did not design the Lincoln School, but only prepared plans for repairs for the already existing building. The builder of Lincoln School was the African-American bricklayer Daniel Green. Green also worked on projects that Cluss designed including Calvary Baptist Church, Sumner School, and Center Market.
